HomeLantern as a documentation system: records you can review

What messages, shared files, and explicit milestones contribute to a maintenance record, and what stays outside it.

Context is more useful when connected

A photo without the report, an invoice without its scope, or a message without its date can be difficult to interpret. HomeLantern stores conversation messages and shared media with timestamps and connects operational work to property and job context.

That is documentation of currently available records, not a promise of permanent retention or an unchangeable original. Policies, access changes, moderation, edits, and deletion can affect what remains available. Review the privacy policy for retention information.

Turn a conversation into a portable packet

In the authenticated property or job chat, choose Export records, review the disclosure, and download the ZIP. Extract it and open report.html for the readable record. records.json carries structured IDs, timestamps, message content, and file status.

The report can be printed to PDF. Optional local attachments avoid depending on expiring signed links. A file that cannot be included is identified rather than silently presented as preserved.

An illustrative example

A kitchen leak conversation includes the tenant's description, the property team's response, a photo, and a shared invoice PDF. These can appear in the packet if the user can access them. An invoice stored only in Financials must be obtained through its own authorized workflow.

The packet excludes other chats, private notes, unshared job photos, and AI tool payloads. It is not a full-account data export. See documentation integrity for limits and timestamp handling.

Use documentation carefully

Review the packet before handing it to a professional. Do not assume the same audience can access everything in an account, and do not send passwords or bank credentials with a support request.

A coordination layer helps people work from shared context; a documentation system helps review that context later. Neither is a legal certification. The documentation and disputes guide provides the practical handoff.
